About Epigenetics
Cygenia provides service for epigenetic analysis. Epigenetic processes - such as modifications in the DNA methylation pattern - are dynamic modifications on the DNA strands that govern the transcriptional potential of genes and determine cellular development.
Epigenetic diagnostics of disease
Particularly malignant diseases are associated with specific changes in the DNA-methylation pattern. Epigenetic diagnostics are therefore a viable alternative to further strengthen diagnostics of diseases – such as leukemia.
Prediction of biological age
There is a growing perception that aging is associated with highly reproducible DNA-methylation changes at specific sites in the genome. Cygenia provides methods to estimate “biological age” based on three genomic regions to gain further insight into parameters that impact on aging.
Quality control of cell cultures
Cells in culture maintain epigentic characteristics of their tissue of origin, their cell type, and culture conditions. Thus, the DNA-methyation pattern provides great potential for quality control of cells - e.g. with regard to replicative senescence or differentiation potential.
Study design and bioinformatics
Your research may require a new assay design or epigenetic profiling. For such experiments detailed planning is a prerequisite. Furthermore, experience in bioinformatics is necessary – particularly when working with genome wide profiles and deep sequencing data.
